History
My Family history in the coffee industry dates back to the beginning of the 20th Century. My uncle Joseph Kopf started sweeping floors at Jabez Burns when he was 14. He spent his nights putting himself through engineering school and worked his way up to become the first non-burns president of Jabez Burns. He acquired many patents including the “thermalo roaster”.
My father started with Jabez Burns as an apprentice in the erecting dept. after high school. He attending engineering school at night. After joining the Air Force during World War II, flying B-29s over the pacific, he returned to Jabez Burns and worked on the development of the continuous and thermal roasters. After Burns was sold to Blawknox industries, He then started his own installation service company. He branched out working with Probat on installation and service of their equipment.
I have early memory of Sunday’s at my uncle Joe’s house listening to him, my father, and other family members talking shop. During grammar school once a year, my father would take me to Jabez Burns factory and coffee companies. I worked for my father throughout high school and after studying engineering in college I went to work for my father full time, while studying millwrighting at night. After he passed away in 1981 I continued to grow the company doing projects in North, South, and Central America as well as Europe and Asia.
